We are an All-Volunteer Organization
If constructed, the center would be able to house 56 dogs. Each dog will be assessed for behavior, temperament and medical issues before being accepted and put up for adoption. The organization exists for the purpose of enriching a dogs life by creating a temporary caring environment while pursuing and facilitating Adoption to loving homes. Likewise, they need loving and patient families to help them adjust to a new life.
When a dog is listed as “PENDING,” then he/she has a “pending” application, but has not been officially approved to adopt through AHR. A huge part of what we do is to teach those adopting from us what dogs are "saying" to us with their body language...one of the most important aspects of the human/dog relationship. Available Dogs
We cannot thank them enough for their commitment to finding a forever home for every single one of our furry friends. Almost Home Animal Rescue League was founded in 1999 by Gail Montgomery Schwartz and Lauren Montgomery Anchill. The mother and daughter team became disheartened while volunteering at various animal shelters. Adoption fees will reflect factors such as the cost for vaccinations, any required special medical treatment and the age of the dog.
Being of the ‘never kill’ philosophy, they were disturbed by the endless euthanasia practiced simply because animals were born homeless and society felt there was no place for them. Depending on the success of fundraising and ongoing operational needs, the center could have 10 full-time employees, 22 part-time employees and a number of volunteers. Volunteers are a vital part of Almost Home Adoptions. We have a team of dedicated volunteers, and we are currently looking for new volunteers join our team. In general, each breed has typical breed specific characteristics; thus, it is important to do research in advance to determine which breeds suit your lifestyle.

Almost Home is also committed to assisting families with their pet needs, preventing unnecessary surrenders to local municipal shelters, made possible through our Training Wheels® program. Almost Home strives to help animals live better quality of lives while building a more humane community one family at a time. When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. Our intake and adoptions have increased tremendously but so has our rent and expenses.
We are a small group of volunteers whose goal is to save the lives of homeless dogs suffering in high-kill shelters. In doing so, we hope to provide an alternative to the purchase of puppy-mill and pet-store dogs, thereby reducing the demand for and ultimately the supply of such dogs. We strive to match each dog with the right family after the dog has been observed in a foster home.
Euthanasia would be considered only if a dog is found not to be adoptable due to severe illness, health issues or severe aggression. These dogs adjust with patience and love over the course of weeks or months. They do not transition in just a few days so please do not expect perfection. If you have the social responsibility to adopt a shelter dog as your new family member, you are also accepting the responsibility of acclimating your pet to its new surroundings, family, and resident pets. A foster-based, non-profit 501 organization dedicated to finding loving, forever homes for homeless animals. In the coming months, Almost Home will launch a capital campaign to drum up the funds needed to construct and operate the dog adoption center. If built, it would be the first dog-only adoption center in Lancaster County. Almost Home Adoptions for rescued cats is a registered 501c3 nonprofit rescue and adoption center located in Westminster, Colorado.
Our adoption fee is $300 with an extra $50 deposit for unaltered puppies. At Almost Home Dog Rescue, we’re running on dog time. We live dogs, we love dogs, and we like to learn about them. We aim to provide a safe haven for dogs that have been abandoned through no fault of their own, rehome them, and to educate the next generation of dog owners.
